Experience the Rursee in Woffelsbach

either on foot, paddling by bike or with a nice boat trip around or on the lake.

It takes just over an hour by boat from Woffelsbach to the dam wall in Schwamenauel. A round trip around the lake from Woffelsbach via Schwammenauel and Rurberg is approx. 26 km.

The Rur dam Schwammenauel is a 77.2 metre high dam in the south-western part of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany), which has existed since 1939 and dams the Rur in the Aachen city region and in the district of Düren to form the 7.83 km² Rur reservoir (also: Rursee).

With 203.2 million cubic metres of storage space, the Rur reservoir dammed by the Rur dam Schwammenauel is the second largest reservoir in Germany in terms of volume after the Bleiloch reservoir (Thuringia) and before the Edersee (Hesse).

Rurtalsperre Schwammenauel and Rurstausee belong to the Eifel-Rur water association.

The Rur reservoir, consisting of the Rur dam Schwammenauel and the Rur reservoir, is located in the Rur Eifel (part of the Northern Eifel) north-west and west of the Kermeter, north-east of the Monschau Heckenland and east-south-east of the Buhlert mountain range between Simmerath (Aachen city region) in the west-south-west and Heimbach (Düren district) in the east. It is located directly below or north of the Paulushof dam, which dams up the waters of the Rur and Urft rivers to form the Obersee lake, and extends into the Eifel National Park, which was established in 2004 and is framed by the borders of the High Fens-Eifel Nature Park.
